On Saturday, the kids were very excited about Earth Hour. Wei understood it as saving energy and not using anything powered electronically.
So he switched off all the lights, and left only 2 small lamps on (for Grandpa to see where he was going, we wouldn't want Grandpa to trip in the dark). Wei even wanted to switch off all the fans, eventually we left the fan running in the living room, where Grandpa and Grandma sat in the dark. Poor old dears do not understand why we had to turn off everything and they were not allowed to watch tv for an hour.
Wei, Yuan, Baby Xin, J and I sat at the balcony, because we wanted to enjoy the natural breeze. It did not seem as if many people turned down the lights. Wei had brilliant ideas of what to do in the dark - we were paying "Snap" card game which we could barely make out the characters from the street lights outside.
These photos were taken with J's mobile phone, which had a flash function.
Baby Xin also wanted to take part in the Snap games. All in all, it was an enjoyable hour until Baby Xin got sleepy and had to be put to bed.

When We Were Young, Everything Was Possible
Today I asked Wei if it is ok if I stopped working and stayed at home.
Below is the conversation that transpired:
Wei: "Why do you want to stop working, Mom?"
Me: "Because I don't feel good at work, I often get scolded."
Wei: "What are you going to do if you stopped?"
Me: "I will take a break, then maybe I will consider working again"
Wei: "Would you work at your company again?"
Me (puzzled): "Why do you want me to work at this company?"
Wei: "Because it is a good company, Mom."
Me (even more puzzled): "Why?"
Wei: "Because we got free flu injections."
Me: "Ah...I see. But what about the scolding?"
Wei: "It's ok, Mom, I often get scolded in school too. Never mind -la, just continue."
It made my week, the way Wei sees it.

Baby Xin - 2010 chronicle through pictures
As I look back at our photo collection, I realize how time flies and how my baby has grown. Thanks to mobile phones, we easily take pictures at any moment, and thereby capturing the many faces and many changes in this wonderful, amazing first year.

Chess tournament 2011
Just a short note about Wei's chess tournament. This round he faced stiff competition. From last year's 7th place, he is ranked 12th place in his zone for boys under 10 years old (he even had to bring his birth cert to prove that he is under 10 this year).
When he went into the WP round, he faced greater challenges from a school named Lee Rubber School. Wow, I didn't even know there is such a school. I had a chat with my mom, and she knows, this school is located in Gombak, near a rubber estate, and the rubber boss built the school for the kids in the area, hence the name.
Anyway, it turned out that the competitors from this school were really good. Out of a total of 7 games, Wei won 3 and lost 4. So he could not proceed to the finals. He was a bit disappointed but he took it well.
